The weight of crystal chandeliers has high requirements on the ceiling structure. The weight of large crystal chandeliers is usually between 10 kg and 100 kg. Therefore, when installing crystal chandeliers, it is necessary to ensure that the house structure can withstand and install chandeliers of such weight.
Specifically, the load-bearing capacity of the chandelier support structure (such as the ceiling) needs to be greater than twice the weight of the chandelier itself. For example, if the purchased chandelier is 30 kg, the load-bearing capacity of the ceiling support structure must be greater than 60 kg. In addition, when the weight of the chandelier fixture is greater than 3 kg, it should be fixed with embedded hooks or bolts; when the weight of the soft wire chandelier fixture is greater than 1 kg, a hanging chain should be added.
If the weight of the crystal chandelier is almost the same as the current lighting fixture, there is no need to replace the ceiling junction box. But if it is heavier, a new junction box that is sufficient to support the weight of the crystal chandelier must be purchased and installed. These measures are all to ensure the safe installation and use of the chandelier and avoid safety hazards caused by insufficient load-bearing.
The average weight of a crystal chandelier varies depending on the style and specifications. Generally speaking, a simple 15-light crystal chandelier weighs about 10 to 15 kilograms, and a European classic 15-light crystal chandelier weighs about 12 to 20 kilograms. In addition, the weight of a crystal chandelier for the main hall light in a large public place can reach several hundred kilograms. In general, the weight range of crystal chandeliers is relatively wide, ranging from a few kilograms to dozens of kilograms.
The following aspects need to be considered when calculating the load-bearing capacity of the ceiling structure to accommodate chandeliers of different weights:
The weight of the chandelier itself: According to the decoration regulations, when the weight of the chandelier is more than 3 kilograms, the post-embedded parts should be installed on the top plate first, and then the lamps should be fixed on the post-embedded parts. For example, if the chandelier weighs 30 kilograms, the load-bearing capacity of the ceiling support structure must be greater than 60 kilograms.
Load-bearing capacity of ceiling per square meter: Generally speaking, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling per square meter is about 2.5KN/m² (i.e. 2500N/m²). This value can be measured by the house design drawing and the standard setting of the exposed load of each floor.
Building structure load specification: According to the "Building Structure Load Specification", the live load of general civil buildings is 2.0kN/m², that is, one square live load is 200kg. When calculating the bearing capacity of the floor slab, this load must be multiplied by a load sub-item coefficient, generally 1.4.
Reinforcement measures: If the load-bearing capacity of the ceiling is insufficient, you can consider adding reinforcement materials to the ceiling to ensure the safety of the chandelier.
Load-bearing standard of chandelier hanging wire: The load-bearing standard of chandelier hanging wire mainly depends on the weight of the chandelier and the actual situation of the room. For example, the load-bearing range of the living room chandelier is between 3kg and 5kg.
Calculating the load-bearing capacity of the ceiling structure requires comprehensive consideration of the weight of the chandelier itself, the load-bearing capacity of the ceiling per square meter, the building structure load specification, and possible reinforcement measures.
The specific installation method of pre-embedded hooks and bolts to fix crystal chandeliers is as follows:
Disconnect the power supply: First ensure safety and turn off the power supply.
Check the weight of the chandelier: Determine the weight of the crystal chandelier and choose a suitable fixing method according to its weight. If the weight of the chandelier is large, you may need to replace the ceiling junction box to withstand a larger weight.
Pre-embedded hooks and bolts: Pre-embed hooks, bolts, screws or expansion bolts on the roof. Note that the bearing capacity of the fixing nut should match the weight of the crystal chandelier.
Drilling and fixing expansion screws: Use an electric drill or electric hammer to drill holes at the predetermined position, and then fix the expansion screws into the holes to ensure that the position is accurate and not skewed.
Install the hanging plate: Use the mounting screws in the lamp to fix the hanging plate on the expansion screws. Note that both sides are tightened in turn to ensure the balance of the hanging plate.
Connect the chandelier base: First use a metal hanging plate or hook to fix the ceiling, and then connect the chandelier base, which can make the chandelier more stable.
Install the lamp: put the lamp into the ceiling opening, press the buckle, push it in and clamp it.
The requirements for the junction box when installing soft-wire chandeliers and hard-wire chandeliers are different.
For soft-wire chandeliers, the installation requirements of the junction box are relatively special. First, soft-wire chandeliers usually use hanging chains to bear the tension of the wires to avoid the wires directly bearing the tension. Secondly, when installing soft-wire chandeliers, it is necessary to knot the buckle in the hanging box and the lamp holder, and when using steel pipes as the hanging rods of lamps, it is also necessary to ensure that the junction box is installed in place and keep the junction box clean and tidy without rust. In addition, the metal hose connection must use the matching hose connector to reliably connect with the junction box and the light box, and it is strictly forbidden to have exposed wires.
For hard-wire chandeliers, the installation requirements of the junction box are relatively simple. According to the "Construction and Acceptance Specifications for Building Electrical Lighting Installations Gb 50617-2010", the junction box of the lamp should use a junction box with a protection level of not less than IPX5. This means that the junction box of the hard-wire chandelier needs to have a certain waterproof performance to ensure safety and reliability.
The requirements for the junction box of the soft-wire chandelier during installation are more stringent, and special attention needs to be paid to the protection of the wires and the sealing of the junction box;
When installing a large crystal chandelier, in order to ensure that it does not affect the safety and aesthetics of the ceiling structure, you can refer to the following steps and precautions:
Check the weight: First, you must clearly know the weight of the crystal lamp and determine whether it is similar to the weight of the lighting equipment. If the weight is similar, it can be installed without changing the circuit.
Disconnect the power supply: The power plug must be disconnected before installation to ensure safety.
Check the installation position: Make sure that the installation position is stable and can withstand the weight of the lamp to avoid safety problems such as the lamp falling off.
Maintain balance: During installation, make sure that the suspension rod and lamp holder of the crystal lamp are vertical and balanced to prevent the lamp body from shaking or falling.
Clean the lighting equipment: Clean the lighting equipment before installing the metal bracket of the crystal lamp.
